Entrepreneurship Mobilizing Resources for Economic Development
GITAM INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GITAM-CIE) believes that national economic growth is propelled by rekindling, maturing and canalizing the innate potential of individuals. GITAM-CIE realizes that to provide students with such opportunities to develop into successful entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship education plays an important role. Entrepreneurship education is the process of providing individuals with concepts and skills to recognize the opportunities that others have overlooked and to have the insight, self-esteem and knowledge to act where others have hesitated. It includes opportunity recognition, marshalling resources in the face of risk, and initiating a business venture. Keeping this in view, GITAM-CIE was launched in 2003 with the following objectives:
- To rekindle the dormant entrepreneurial talents in students by offering initially electives and subsequently full fledged programmes in small business and entrepreneurship;
- To carry out research in international entrepreneurship;
- To train and develop entrepreneurs to enhance their effectiveness in international business;
- To undertake consulting for entrepreneurs in international business.
GITAM-CIE designed one three-credit elective in Small Business and Entrepreneurship and offers the same as one of the electives to students in international business. Those who wish to become entrepreneurs opt for this and follow it up with business proposal offered in the sixth trimester. Students are encouraged to develop a business plan to actualize the same after graduation from the Institute. GITAM INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS has designed one management development program in Export Risk Management and plans to offer at different places in India. It has plans to develop more such management development programmes, offer consulting to business firms, and aim to draw an ambitious plan to carry out research in international entrepreneurship to support education, training, and consulting. GITAM-CIE has plans to offer three-trimester programme in International Entrepreneurship for those who aspire to become international entrepreneurs. |
